Making Music

Sophie and Dev, the married duo behind MacRae Strings met playing music in Ithaca, NY in 2014. Since then, they have played together as part of Dev's family band The Brothers MacRae (consisting of Austin MacRae, Devon MacRae, Casey Widger, and Sophie Orzechowski MacRae), as well as Sophie's family band The Sugar River Band (consisting of Jane (mom) Orzechowski, sister Sophie, and brothers Russell, Francis, and Neil). Sophie mainly plays fiddle, fiddle d'Amore, nyckelharpa, hardingfele, piano, and sometimes accordion. Dev has also made Sophie a Mountain Dulcimer and most recently a 29-string Celtic Harp, which Sophie is excited to incorporate into their music soon! Dev plays mandolin, guitar, piano, and sometimes nyckelharpa.

Together, Sophie and Dev play a melting pot mixture of New England, Swedish, Irish, French Canadian, Scottish, and Americana music.

Sophie and Dev play for dances, weddings, and concerts across New England and New York State often with Sophie's mum Jane. Sophie and Dev appear together on an album released by The Brothers MacRae: The Old Parade (2015) and an album released by Austin MacRae: Better Devil (2019).
