Nyckelharpas

The Swedish nyckelharpa is a captivating instrument with 12 sympathetic strings that has gained much popularity in the United States over the past several decades. I focus on building harpas that are light, easy-to-play, and low in ambient instrument noise, e.g. the occasional gentle clacking that comes from the keys being pressed and falling back against the felt in the key box. It's a natural part of the instrument's unique sound, but one that I work to make more subtle so that the incredible resonance and richness of the instrument is the main focus when played.
